The back story

About Where Buenos Aires sleeps: palaces, docks and garden hotels

Buenos Aires keeps its grandest hotels in Recoleta, along the Avenida Alvear and the streets around it, where the city built its palaces in the age of the cattle fortunes. The Alvear Palace has 207 rooms and suites in modern French style, in its own words; a few blocks away, the Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt joins a palace to a modern wing, and the Four Seasons has La Mansión Álzaga Unzué in its garden. On the river, Puerto Madero has the Faena in a brick warehouse and the Alvear Icon among the towers. Palermo’s hotels are smaller, built round gardens and pools.

Recoleta and Retiro

The Alvear Palace Hotel stands at Avenida Alvear 1891, with L’Orangerie, the Lobby Bar and the Alvear Roof Bar. The Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires is at Avenida Alvear 1661; its restaurants Duhau Restaurante & Vinoteca and Gioia are both in the 2026 MICHELIN selection. The Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires is at Posadas 1086/88, with Elena (in the 2026 MICHELIN selection), the Pony Line bar and La Mansión Álzaga Unzué. Smaller addresses: MIO Buenos Aires on the Avenida Quintana, and the Palladio, an MGallery hotel, on the Avenida Callao.

Puerto Madero

The Faena Hotel Buenos Aires is at Martha Salotti 445, with El Mercado, the Library Lounge, El Cabaret and the Rojo Tango show; the Alvear Icon Hotel & Residences, with 159 rooms and suites, is at Aimé Painé 1130; and the Hotel Madero has Rëd Restó & Lounge and the White Bar terrace.

You don’t need a room to see these hotels: book tea at the Alvear Palace, or the tango show at the Faena.

Palermo

In Palermo Hollywood, the Fierro Hotel is at Soler 5862, with its restaurant, wine cellar and garden, and the Home Hotel at Honduras 5860 has a pool and garden. In Palermo Soho, the Duque Hotel & Spa is at Guatemala 4364, and Legado Mítico is a small hotel of character.

Our advice: choose Recoleta for the grand manner and walks to the museums, Puerto Madero for the river, and Palermo for restaurants and late nights.
