The official steps for buying a home in Buenos Aires. It is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Your Argentine tax number

Every buyer needs an Argentine tax identification number, issued through ARCA, the federal revenue agency (arca.gob.ar).

Check the title

Before you pay any deposit, have your own escribano and lawyer check the title and the seller’s certificates.

The escritura and the registry

The sale is made by public deed (escritura) signed before an escribano, who registers it at the Registro de la Propiedad Inmueble.

Living in Argentina

Buying a home does not by itself give the right to live in Argentina. Check the current rules with Migraciones (argentina.gob.ar/interior/migraciones).

Where people live

See our property guide for Recoleta, Palermo Chico, Puerto Madero, Belgrano and Núñez, and San Telmo. We don’t publish prices or yields.
